G4 is an educational program and mentor initiative that includes workshops, forums and events established to encourage, stimulate, and challenge young men to set goals and focus on achieving them. The G4 concept combines fun activities with serious themes (Workshops). Our experience has taught us that participation is increased when young men are motivated or stimulated through incorporating fun activities along with learning. The G4 concept supports Alpha Phi Alpha’s Inc. Go-To-High School Go-To- College (GHGC) and Project Alpha National Programs. Workshops and themes will center on the GHGC curriculum.
The Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College National Program, established in 1920, concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement. Statistics prove the value of this extra impetus in making the difference in the success of young men, given that school completion is the single best predictor of future economic success. Through the Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College Program, young men receive information and learn strategies that facilitate success. As Alpha men, we provide youth participants with excellent role models to emulate.
Furthermore, the focus of Alpha Phi Alpha’s Inc. Go-To-High School, Go-To- College is designed to help young people focus their attention on” high school completion and the pursuit of college education or other forms of training after high school graduation.” While a great deal of focus is already placed on the “pursuit of college education, G4 seeks to balance the scorecard by emphasizing “other forms of training after high school graduation to include Military Service. Not all youths are college bound, but many have a strong desire to further their education in other ways.
